Sunshine on a cloudy day

Thanks to Cub Scout Pack 6, a host of Keep Rabun Beautiful volunteers and workers from Walmart, an otherwise unremarkable cloudy Saturday in Clayton became a celebration of environmentalism, neighborly goodwill and restoring Mother Nature’s gleam. A crew of two dozen helped de-litter the area around Walmart and Home Depot along Highway 441. The haul included bags of trash, countless bottles and cans, an old tire or two and other miscellaneous litter. Please take note of their handiwork the next time you visit either store.

Kudos to everyone who helped out including Gretchen Echols and son Ian, Jason Flowers and sons Paul and Charlie, Kristi Early and sons Silas and Ezra, Shannon Cook and son Josiah, and Stanley and Joe from Walmart. Special thanks also to the Duval Automotive Group for providing lunch to the hungry Scouts.

Keep an eye out for other neighborhood events around Rabun County so you be part of the Great American Cleanup that runs through May. Keep Rabun Beautiful is dedicated to making our county cleaner and safer — one trash bag at time. But this is a community effort — neighbor helping neighbor — to rid our home of litter and unsightly roadside trash. Be a part of the effort — and the fun — of enhancing Rabun’s natural beauty.
